Two media rights groups have hailed the release of an imprisoned journalist in Burma, but expressed disappointment that 12 others remain in jail.
In a joint statement (Tuesday), Reporters Without Borders and the Burma Media Association said Burma's military junta has broken promises to release all 13 journalists.
It says cameraman Ko Sein Ohn is the only journalist released by Rangoon so far. He spent eight years in prison for filming and distributing a video of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
The groups called a recent release of prisoners a "smokescreen," and urged the European Union to maintain sanctions on Burma until all journalists and prisoners of conscience are freed.
