03 Mar 05: Asian Stock Prices Close Higher

Asian stock markets closed mostly higher Thursday.

Tokyo's Nikkei index gained 43 points to finish at 11,856. The average gained 33 points on Wednesday.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 42 points to end at 13,892. The Hang Seng lost 210 points on Wednesday.

In the region's other big market, Singapore, the Straits Times index gained three points to close at 2,148.

Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Bombay, Jakarta, Manila, Seoul, Shanghai and Sydney.

Markets were lower in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei and Wellington.

In late afternoon Tokyo currency trading, the dollar was selling at 105.13 yen, up .52 yen from the same time Wednesday.

In Hong Kong, the price of gold rose two dollars 80 cents to close at 430 dollars, five cents an ounce.
