Asian stock markets closed mostly flat Monday, with the key market in Tokyo finishing slightly lower.
Tokyo's Nikkei index lost a fraction of 1% (74 points), to close at 11,850.
The Nikkei gained half a percent on Friday. Hong Kong's key index, the Hang Seng, rose slightly (16 points), to finish at 13,907.
The Hang Seng rose a quarter of a percent Friday.
Elsewhere, share prices were slightly higher in Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Sydney and Wellington.
Stock prices slipped in Bangkok, Manila, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei and Bangkok.
The U.S. dollar was quoted at 104.55 yen in Tokyo, up 0.44 yen from late Friday in Tokyo, and above its late Friday New York level of 103.88 yen.
The price of gold in Hong Kong rose two dollars and 70 cents to close at 443 dollars and 15 cents an ounce.
