02 May 05: Asian Markets Mostly Higher

Asian stock markets closed mostly higher Friday, with the key market in Tokyo slipping on profit taking.

Tokyo's Nikkei index lost a fraction of 1% (seven points), to close at 11,002 ahead of this week's three-day market holiday. The Nikkei rose slightly in its previous session.

Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Bombay, Seoul, Sydney and Wellington. Shares closed slightly lower in Jakarta.

Markets in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Shanghai, Singapore and Taipei were closed.

The U.S. dollar was quoted at 105.38 yen in Tokyo, down 0.49 yen from last week's late trading in Tokyo, but above its level in New York late Friday, 104.79 yen.
