26 July 05: Asian Stock Markets Closed Mostly Higher

Asian stock markets closed mostly higher Tuesday but there were declines in Tokyo and Hong Kong. Tokyo's Nikkei index lost 25 points to finish at 11,738.

On Monday, the index gained 68 points. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost 24 points to end at 14,770. The Hang Seng gained seven points on Monday.

In the region's other big market, Singapore, the Straits Times index gained 12 points to close at 2,322.

Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Bombay, Seoul, Shanghai, Sydney and Wellington. Markets were lower in Bangkok and Taipei.

In late afternoon Tokyo currency trading, the dollar was selling at 111.89 yen, down 0.01 yen from the same time Monday.

In Hong Kong the price of gold fell 20 cents to close at $425.05 an ounce.
