28 Feb 05: European Stocks Higher at Midday

European share prices are slightly higher in midday trading Monday.

London's Financial Times index is up one point at 5,008. The CAC-40 in Paris is just over one-half point higher at 4,035, and the DAX index in Frankfurt is up eight points at 4,357.

The S&P futures contract is down a half point, indicating a slightly lower opening for U.S. stocks.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange's Nikkei Average rose 82 points to finish at 11,741.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index closed up 38 points at 14,195.

The price of gold in London is 436 dollars, three cents an ounce, up one dollar 93 cents from late Friday.

The dollar in London is lower against other major currencies.
